Colony Cats new adoption center is now open!

Don't forget, Colony Cats now has a new adoption center open at 2740 Festival Lane in the Festival Center next to Joann's Fabric off of Sawmill Road in Dublin. They are open 4-7 pm Monday to Friday and 12-5 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. To find out more, visit their web site: www.colonycats.org

Great Gift for Kitties that hate having their nails cut!

Recently, while reading Cat Fancy magazine, I came across a neat gadget for those cats that do not like to have their nails cut. Called "Emery Cat," this scratching post acts like a nail file to file back a cat's nails. Made of the same rough material as a nail file, a cat gives itself a pedicure (and manicure) while they scratch. To find out more, go to www.emerycat.com

The web site is currently offering a "Buy One, Get One Free" deal. So you can get two Emery Cat scratching boards for $19.95. We will be trying these out for our kitties that hate nail trimming. This is also a good suggestion for people who are considering declawing.

PetSmart Adoption Event on November 28.

We will be at the PetSmart on Sawmill on Saturday, November 28 from 12-2 (or 3--depending on how busy things are) for our usual monthly adoption event. Please stop by and see us. We still have B and O t-shirts for sale for $15 or 2 for $25. These would make very nice holiday gifts.

Through December 20th, you can cast your vote for Black and Orange Cat Foundation and help us win one of three big prizes, which include a $3,000 grant for third place; $5,000 grant for second place; and a $20,000 Grand Prize grant. When you are on The Animal Rescue Site, click on the purple box. On the next page, a box will appear that tells you to "Vote Today." When you click on that you can choose our organization by searching for us. Just type in our name and city and state (Plain City, Ohio). We could do a lot with $20,000. New Site to Click to Feed Pets in Need

We recently found a cool new site on the Care2.com web site where you can click daily to donate food to shelter animals. Just like on the The Animal Rescue Site, the donations come from the sponsors for the site. All donations from your clicks go to The Humane Society of the United States. After you have clicked to feed shelter animals, you can also click to save rain forests, provide habitat for big cats, save wolves and seals, and stop global warming, among other things. This site is also sponsoring the America's Favorite Animal Shelter Contest. The contest ends December 16 and you only get one vote. So please vote and then pass this along to others you know. Don't Forget--until December 3, Best Friends will match donations to B and O, up to $25,000!!

Best Friends Animal Sanctuary has created a group of Network Charities, which Black and Orange Cat Foundation is part of. Beginning, November 9th, and continuing for 25 days, until December 3, Best Friends will match donations that come in to B and O–up to $25,000!! That means we could potentially make up to $50,000 once Best Friends puts in their matching donations.

If you have anyone that you are thinking of making a donation for to honor them for Christmas, Hanukkah, a birthday, or any other event coming up soon, please consider making your donation from November 9 through December 3. You will double your impact for B and O, because Best Friends will match whatever amount you donate! And if you email (bandocats@columbus.rr.com) us the person's info, we'll even send a card to the person you donated for telling them how much the donation helped and that it was doubled because of your thoughtfulness, allowing us to do even more for the kitties.

Dr. Kim West is back in town!

We just wanted to let everyone know (because many of you were her client), that Dr. Kim West will be working at a new vet hospital that is opening in Muirfield. Noah's Ark Veterinary Hospital will soon be ready to accept clients. Located at 6001 Memorial Drive in Dublin, the new office features state of art equipment, separate exam and surgery rooms for dogs and cats (to cut down on the cats' stress levels without barking dogs to scare them), 24 hour emergency service, and Dr. West!! The hospital is getting its start due to Renee Kelly, a lovely lady dedicated to rescue work. Renee, who has been rescuing Persian cats for years through The Forgotten Persian Rescue and Friends is dedicated to working with local rescue groups. So if you need a vet or would just like to start working with Dr. West again, give them a call at 614-761-8400.

PetSmart Photos with Santa, Saturday, December 19 from 11-4!

Please join us this year for photos with "Santa Claws" at the PetSmart on Sawmill Road on Saturday, December 19 from 11-4 pm. Photos are $9.95 with your Pet Perks card. You will receive a 4 x 6 digital photo and a holiday themed frame to display your picture. PetSmart generously gives $5 from each picture sold to Black and Orange Cat Foundation. So please stop by and join us for a really fun event. Last year, Santa saw cats, dogs, and even a snake! Bring all your babies to sit with Santa!

We thought this photo was too cute. We helped Colleen get vet care for her kitties and she sent us this wonderful picture of her babies passed out after a hard day of playing and just being kittens. This is what we will all look like, though, after gorging ourselves on Thanksgiving Day. Enjoy the holiday!
