Inline Image

Measle's Animal Haven Pit Bull Rescue in Columbus is conducting their "Pit Fix 2009." If you know anyone who has a pit bull, Measle's will fix (spay or neuter) the dog for $20. The $20 payment is the total cost to the owner and also includes a rabies vaccine. To see a list of the criteria to get this low cost option, please visit the web site.  You must live in a Central Ohio county: Franklin, Madison, Union, Licking, Pickaway, or Fairfield. If you have a pit bull or know someone who does, please contact Robin at 614-595-5266 to make an appointment or email MeaslesAnimalHaven@yahoo.com  There are just too many pit bulls who are unwanted and being euthanized every day due to their breed.  Help prevent more unwanted dogs from being born.

HBC, Hit By Car, becomes Humphrey Bob Christenson

Inline Image

HBC, which initially meant "Hit By Car" but now stands for Humphrey Bob Christenson, was found by the side of the road stumbling around and looking traumatized. The nice people, who rescued him, thought he had been "hit by a car," and took him to Riverside Drive Animal Care Center. It turns out, however, that HBC had not been hit, but had a neurological problem caused by a larvae in his brain. This caused the stumbling and problems with vision. Dr. O' Keefe, at Riverside, has been treating him and he shows progress of recovering. He can see out of one eye and he can get around, although he does stumble some due to the problems in his brain. Dr. O' Keefe is hoping that once the larvae are all gone and the brain swelling has gone down, HBC will go back to normal. She needs to find a quiet place for him to recover. If you would like to foster or even adopt a special needs kitty who is loving and sweet, please contact us or call Riverside at 614-766-1222. HBC will receive all needed vet care through Riverside at no charge for anyone who is willing to help him. He is about 2 years old.

Eldchrist Winery mascots, "B" and Mittens

Inline Image

A new winery has opened in Plain City called Eldchrist Winery, located at 8189 State Route 736.  Imagine our surprise when one of the owners called to say he needed help getting two white kittens fixed.  Those kittens, "B" (formerly named Bianca until it became clear Bianca was a boy) and Mittens, a polydactyl, "Hemingway" kitty with extra toes on his front paws, have become the Winery's mascots.  After a visit to one of our weekly clinics, they have also been vaccinated and neutered and can lead a healthy life playing on the Winery's restored patio (the patio isn't the only thing that's been restored--the house is magnificent!). B and Mittens might also be featured on future bottles of wine!  How cool would that be!? So the next time you are in Plain City, stop by Eldchrist Winery.  They are open Fridays from 6-9 pm and Saturdays from 3-8 pm for wine tastings. Make sure to meet B and Mittens while you are there.  Although, we think maybe they should have been named "B and O."

Artimus and Xandria, Happy Tales

Inline Image

Last month, we featured Artimus and Xandria as our kitties who needed homes. Well, guess what?  They need homes no longer!! These two siblings were just so nice we could not figure out why they had not been scooped up. Well, we know why now.  They were just waiting on their new mom and dad, Kayla and Brian, to see them and decide they were their babies.  These two are now living the good life and have nothing to do all day but follow their mom around and make dad play feather games with them.  We want to thank Kayla and Brian again for giving them such a super home.  Give them big kitten kisses from all of us!!

Romeo The Cat Fundraising Web site

Inline Image

There was a really nice article in The Columbus Dispatch about Romeo the Cat and his human staff. Romeo's mom set up a web site featuring Romeo's antics to help raise money for rescue groups.  Romeo is also on "Twitter" with a following of over 6,000 people!!  For every new person that signs up to follow him on Twitter, his human mom donates money to rescue groups.  So if any of you are Twitter members, please start following Romeo.  Romeo is a Persian kitty and is actually from a rescue group near us, The Forgotten Persian Rescue and Friends  in Marysville.  If you'd like to read about Romeo's adventures and also help lots of rescue groups, go to Romeo's site: www.romeothecat.com
